Flooding in Thailand causes supply shortage of HDDs

(25.10.2011) Thailand suffers from the most devastating floods in decades after persistent monsoon rain over the last weeks Some 30 per cent of Thailand's provinces have been hit, large areas north of Bangkok are under water.

The flooding will have unforeseeable consequences for the IT industry, and in particular for the HDD sector. Many manufacturers including Western Digital, Seagate, Hitachi, and Toshiba were forced to suspend production. The situation is expected to take several weeks before it can be resolved.

Therefore, the current fourth quarter will see a significant shortage in supplies. Bechtle is stocking up on all popular HDD models, however, availability from distributors is limited. Of course, Bechtle's account managers are happy to assist our customers with all their questions and enquiries.
