Based in Giengen an der Brenz and looking back on a history of 125 years, Albert Ziegler GmbH equips fire fighters with everything they need to get their job done—from bunker gear to pumps and extinguisher systems, to all kinds of fire engines. All this is complemented with a range of accessories manufactured to the same life-saving quality standards. Fire services in over 100 countries rely on the excellent quality, reliability, and durability of Ziegler products. The company’s customers are as diverse as its products, from fire departments and airports, to manufacturing plants and governments around the world.
Ziegler was looking to have a new network infrastructure implemented by a service provider who could also take on related IT services during operation. Each data centre was to be equipped with a new core switch supporting 10 Gb/s connectivity, with a new set of redundant and PoE-enabled server access switches capable of handling 1 Gb/s.
Bechtle successfully optimised our core and access switch infrastructure and achieved the required scalability and high availability, all within the set budget. The team’s deep know-how in network technology, competent consultation, and, of course, the professional manner in which the solution was implemented, all went to show that we made the right decision in choosing Bechtle.
Andreas Mesch, IT Infrastructure Manager, Albert Ziegler GmbH
Following a successful proof-of-concept run at Bechtle, an expert team joined by Ziegler’s IT staff implemented the new switches at the Giengen site over the course of a weekend and familiarised their counterparts at Ziegler with the details of the new network infrastructure. Two HPE 5130 HI switches were installed in the demilitarised zone (DMZ), and four HPE 5700 plus two HPE 5900AF switches at the network core. Bechtle racked the switches and connected the required cabling, installed the firmware and conducted a burn-in. The configuration, start-up and consequent fine-tuning of the IT environment were also done in close liaison with Ziegler. Bechtle also installed the HPE Intelligent Management Center (IMC), a unified, single-pane-of-glass management platform for Ziegler’s new network infrastructure that provides full transparency into all networks. This means that Ziegler can now manage all of its IT resources, services and users with a single tool. Once the new core and access switches were all set up and running, Bechtle’s consultants provided Ziegler with useful tips, tricks and insights into the new network infrastructure in a series of dedicated WebEx meetings to help Ziegler maximise its investment.
The implemented HPE switches tick all the boxes required by Ziegler: The new network infrastructure is highly available, powerful and scalable. As Hewlett Packard’s largest partner in Germany, Bechtle was also able to secure the best prices for Ziegler. The re-designed core and access switch infrastructure not only stabilised IT operations but also reduced associated costs. By establishing unified IT standards, Ziegler now has a network at its disposal that is ready for the future.
