A new age of job satisfaction: How do you keep Millennials and Gen Z happy in the workplace?

There has been a change in the way we work. Millennials, and certainly Gen Z (born between 1995 and 2015), are becoming an increasingly larger and therefore more important group in the workplace (59%). With some 75% of the workforce being made up of Millennials by 2050, it’s imperative that you listen to what these employees want or need.

In the War for Talent, it’s the employees who choose the employers. How do you attract the best talent? And how do you keep this group happy?

Forrester recently published a report about the huge role played by job satisfaction in employees’ productivity at SMEs and in the ultimate success of business goals. It states that technology is one crucial factor in job satisfaction, but also shows how you can transform your workplace into the ideal, modern workplace for young professionals.

Employee satisfaction: an important factor in productivity

Job satisfaction is closely connected with productivity, so it’s no surprise that companies are increasingly focusing on employee satisfaction alongside customer satisfaction.

Productive employees are more often satisfied with their working conditions. There is also a link between job satisfaction and customer experience: employees who have a positive experience of their work also provide positive experiences for customers. At SMEs, the Net Promoter Score (NPS) for customer experiences delivered by highly engaged employees was so much as double that of experiences delivered by their less engaged colleagues.

Technology’s influence on job satisfaction

To help employees work more productively and efficiently, it’s important for them to have the right tools and technology at their disposal. If you want to prepare your organisation for the future, you’ll need:

  • Mobile, flexible and inclusive devices
  • The right devices, tailored to the employee
  • The right technology to support new ways of working (e.g. flexible working and modern meetings)

55% of employees are more engaged in their work and collaborate better thanks to technology. Did you know that for 79% of Millennials, being able to work remotely is a top priority when looking for a new job? This percentage is expected to be even higher among Gen Z, the subsequent generation, whose members are also used to working with the fastest and latest devices. And they expect this from the employer, too. If you don’t respond to this, these young professionals will quickly be lured in by your competition.

Transforming into a modern workplace

If you want to attract and retain talent, then it’s time to invest in your transformation into a modern workplace. Do not underestimate this transformation, and choose a reliable technology partner for the long term. You should also listen carefully to your employees and identify what they think is important.

By listening to what your employees want and need, you can make the right devices available for each persona within the company. Where do your employees mainly work? Do they often work remotely or are they based at the office? What devices and tools do your employees need to work efficiently? These are the types of questions you need to ask when choosing the right tools and devices.

The future is in dynamic work solutions such as cloud tools, mobile/portable devices and flexible workflows. This shift from physical to digital also applies to working in teams and meetings, as employees no longer need to meet physically and can collaborate in a virtual work environment.
