The IT sector has been facing major staff shortages for some time now and it is expected that there will be major bottlenecks in the supply of highly qualified IT professionals until at least 2022. At the same time, the role of IT manager has become much more complex, while expectations continue to grow.

66% of companies believe staff short­ages are hindering their busi­ness’s growth and development. Meanwhile, IT managers’ increased workload combined with the large staff shortages in the IT sector may cause problems in the future.

In addition, more than 60% of IT managers say they spend too much time on device management. The challenges are increasing with remote working and modern meeting solutions, so more and more time is needed to manage all devices in different locations.

 

What are the main struggles?

When it comes to mobile devices, it can be a challenge for IT managers to meet all employee expectations. A recent study showed that cost management is one of the biggest challenges (44%). IT managers indicated that the following factors made it difficult to manage costs: 1

  • Providing support for multiple types of mobile phones (42%)
  • The costs of time/resources (40%)
  • The unpredictable variable costs (38%)

This shows that cost management is the biggest challenge for IT managers at 44%, followed by visibility into device performance (34%). Further down the list we find the implementation of policies and processes in a complex environment (34%) and finally security with 32%.
