TMP – Streamlining project documentation through digital reports.

Since opening its doors in 1990, TMP® Fenster + Türen GmbH has become synonymous with high-quality windows and doors throughout Germany. The manufacturer’s growth is due in part to its stringent quality standards when documenting production processes and external inspections of manufacturing and assembly on construction sites. To ensure smooth business processes, TMP® places high priority on reports and efficient communication.

Project objectives.

TMP® wanted to resolve previous issues resulting from inefficient data administration by extensively automating its existing processes. Improving documentation would also optimise not only the company’s efficiency but also its cost structure. The goal was to provide TMP® fitters with a new system that would better support their work processes while also reducing administrative and managerial tasks. The plan was to unify all devices and resources currently used and integrate additional, necessary features into the overall solution. Interfaces and connection options would be standardised to account for future developments, thereby ensuring that TMP®’s IT would be able to integrate innovations quickly and respond flexibly to new business requirements. In addition, TMP® wanted to slash the time between completing a customer’s project and receiving payment.

In the past, we spent a lot of time documenting our projects. Our new tablet-based method saves time and cuts down on hassle for both us and our customers. Delivery times for returns have been shortened by a week, which means we can now issue invoices one week earlier.

Thanks to its vendor-neutral expertise, Bechtle was able to identify the Panasonic Toughpad FZ-A1 as the best solution for TMP® fitters. The 10.1” Android tablet is specially designed for outdoor use, meeting the MIL-STD-810G standard for drops from heights of up to 1.80 m and featuring IP65-rated dust and water protection. Its dedicated, FIPS 140-2 Level 2-compliant security processor core blocks manipulation attempts. In addition, the device is equipped with a powerful camera and several connectivity options. The Panasonic Toughpad FZ-A1’s anti-glare screen and stylus pen make it especially practical on construction sites, where it can be used even when wearing gloves. In addition, customers can sign visual inspection reports, construction reports or service reports directly on the screen. Integrated mobile broadband allows TMP® fitters to transmit all information, documentation and pictures through a PDF form directly to the main office. And because data transmission is standardised, the current pool of 50 tablets can be expanded at any time. Following testing, Bechtle installed the devices at TMP® in four steps and trained the company’s fitters on the available features.

Business benefits.

The device’s intuitive navigation and easy integration with TMP®’s existing IT resulted in a high acceptance rate among fitters and IT staff alike. TMP® management has been particularly pleased with the increase in efficiency, which has led to better support of business processes. Thanks to Panasonic’s robust tablets, complaints, pictures of construction sites and service documentation can now be recorded quickly and centrally. Invoices can be issued on the spot and customer enquiries responded to promptly. Fitters, who work Germany-wide, no longer have to make as many trips to TMP®’s headquarters as before. In addition, the company’s IT staff can perform previously manual tasks through automated processes, cutting down on the amount of administrative work as well as costs.
