“Back to the passion” – Emery Geosits returns to GITA as executive director.

The Global IT Alliance (GITA) had him firmly under its spell and now he’s back. Eight years after GITA’s conception, co-founder Emery Geosits is now its executive director. As the new man at the helm of the international IT alliance, the experienced industry expert is aiming to raise GITA’s global profile to a whole new level. “I don’t really like IT”, said Emery Geosits once in an interview. “But I like what IT makes possible. It saves lives in hospitals and helps kids learn in schools.” Emery Geosits speaks about his first weeks in his new, old job, about the doors the IT industry will open up in the near future and how GITA is helping companies around the world make the most of these new opportunities.

What made you decide to return to GITA as Executive Director?   

Emery Geosits: Since the early days of GITA, the organisation has been focused on addressing customers’ needs globally with trusted partners and talented salespeople. Back then we had a passion for doing the very best we could to provide the vendor community, account managers and of course, providing the customers the best experience. While I focused on other projects over the past few years, that passion continued to burn. After seeing firsthand how inadequate other “global solution” providers were, I knew GITA was truly the best, most comprehensive solution in the market. When I spoke to the GITA board, it was clear that I was ready to get back to the evangelisation, get back to the passion and get back the GITA mojo.  

   

What advantages does GITA offer its customers in comparison to other global IT networks?  

The difference between GITA and other global IT networks or platform providers is clear.  GITA offers direct account management and accountability. While other providers bid out opportunities to the lowest bidder and provide little or no guidance on product, pricing, delivery etc., with GITA, a customer or vendor knows exactly who is handling their needs in each country. A detailed collaboration of veteran IT professionals brings a level of excellence to each engagement. This is a significant difference from an offshore call centre with no customer interaction.  

 

In your opinion, what are currently the biggest challenges for IT companies?   

The post Covid-19 IT world has many challenges and opportunities: slashed IT budgets, managing the digital workforce, ensuring digital collaboration, compliance and data protection requirements, ... All of this while prioritising the user experience internally and the customer experience externally.  I love how all our GITA member companies address these challenges with unsurpassed agility and experience.   

   

Looking at the upcoming five years, what challenges will the IT industry bring?  

We are certainly in for an innovative, complex and demanding five years in our industry.  Focus on managing data protection is paramount. I think, witnessing the success of the digital transformation era will be interesting.  One thing that I feel the pandemic has brought us is the need to align culture with strategy. I see CIOs needing to work in collaboration with human resources to make technology choices and design processes in a way that supports the creation of the intended organisational culture.

What are your goals for GITA in this year?   

Our first goal is to raise the global profile of the alliance. We really should be at the top of the mind for customers and vendors alike as the premiere global solution. Increasing our presence on social media, press and vendor organisations is key to our visibility. Our second goal is to support GITA member companies with new business and growing existing business with unique product and service offerings. Thirdly, we aim to expand our global reach. There are a few territories in the world that we do not cover with our official GITA members, so we will keep on expanding our footprint this year and leave no location behind.  

 

After some time being back at GITA, how is it for you? Has anything changed?  

What has changed is the number of opportunities. I think it’s bigger than ever. The pandemic has forced global companies to focus on consolidation, budgets and streamlining IT projects. We are aligned in GITA like never before. Separated only by distance, united in service to our customers. I feel energised, determined and very optimistic. Every day I wake up with the opportunity to be great, represent great people and help great companies. Who wouldn’t love to start the day with such a promise?
