Bastei Lübbe is one of the largest family-owned and managed trade publishers in Germany. It cultivates a rich tradition and leverages its expertise and experience to continuously break into new markets and develop innovative concepts and products. The Bastei Entertainment division, which exclusively produces digital content, was founded in 2010. At present, Bastei Lübbe offers approximately 2,500 e-books and expects to add some 500 new e-books each year. In future, the publisher also wants to develop other cross-media areas on the global stage. Its long-term aim is to provide media in languages other than German and deliver a virtually inexhaustible supply of content in whichever form consumers prefer—whether written, audio or visual.
Bastei Lübbe had already appointed a data protection officer to fulfil its statutory data protection obligations. However, it also wanted to review all processes, as well as the organisation of its data protection, to ensure ongoing compliance with current organisational and HR-related requirements mandated by the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG). Moreover, it wanted to raise awareness about data protection and IT security among IT staff.
Thanks to the support of Bechtle’s highly skilled security specialists, our operations within the company and our interactions with customers and suppliers are in absolute compliance with statutory and data-protection requirements. We were also able to greatly increase our employees’ understanding of what data protection and information security entail.
Frank Klütsch, Data Protection Officer, Bastei Lübbe AG
Experienced, certified specialists at the Bechtle Data Protection & Data Security Competence Centre support Bastei Lübbe’s data protection officer.
With Bechtle’s help, Bastei Lübbe’s data protection officer was able to define necessary organisational and technical measures and embed them into the company’s structure. The publishing house is now assured that its intra-company operations and external interactions with customers and suppliers comply with both statutory requirements and IT security standards. In addition, Baste Lübbe has also educated its employees on IT security and data protection, with staff applying these principles in their everyday work.
