Secure SME digitalisation.

Open Source – SUSE solutions are the foundation of SME digitalisation.

SUSE has been an open source pioneer for more than 25 years, developing enterprise solutions in the field of software-defined infrastructure (SDI), as well as application delivery that enables more control and flexibility.

The SME market is changing radically, characterised by new disruptive business models, services and technologies. Competition and cost pressures are high and you need to develop new business models to stay ahead of the game. Existing IT infrastructures are very quickly reaching their limits: new developments such as mobile, Big Data/Analytics, Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) and Internet of Things (IoT) are impossible to integrate without a fundamental transformation. The biggest challenge for you today is unifying old and new.

Modern technologies based on open source: innovative people and cash-rich enterprises get together to collaborate on existing projects and implement new ones. They aren’t bound to one provider, but developed and supported by the community and many vendors and are always up-to-date and future-proof. Open source is therefore the foundation that drives digitalisation.

DevOps methods in particular makes enterprises more agile. Teams made up of developers operations experts and quality controllers simplify communication and ensure flexibility. The specialist tools required originate in the open source environments because they have been developed according to these maxims for years.

A lot of new open source projects are not often designed to work with legacy IT. As an experienced Enterprise Linux provider, SUSE is committed to closing the gap between innovative open source solutions and established systems. SUSE works closely with the innovative open source world and is well aware of the requirements of SMEs.

This means that SUSE software solutions can be tested and tailored to meet your needs. The result is stable, practical open source systems that include consulting, training plus long-term and 24-hour support.

We can discuss and theorise endlessly about digitalisation, but how can it be operationalised in an enterprise?

Peter Weisbach, NEXT Executive at Bechtle:

When discussing digitalisation, the focus tends to be on the tools rather than the need, which is a big mistake. Enterprises have to think more about which trends are conquering the market, what needs exist or could emerge and how to meet needs with products or services.
Let’s take the humble washing machine as an example. Which need does it meet? Is it ‘washing clothes’ or ‘clean clothes’? It is of course the latter, but I always here the former being given as an answer. This example shows just how difficult it is to recognise the correct requirement
Management and/or technical departments deliver needs in order to react to the market and IT faces the challenge of implementing them quickly. At the same time, the IT organisation has to position itself as a service provider within the company and actively approach the business, ask questions and offer solutions. Those who only react as technology changes miss huge chances.
