I’ll start with a look back over the three years. Just before my A-Levels in 2017, I got an acceptance letter from Bechtle Karlsruhe. I can remember how excited I was! It all kicked off in September 2017 with a one-month internship. I was given my own notebook, name badge and quite a few giveaways . This first month was all about getting to know the company and gaining an insight into what the next three years would hold. I really enjoyed the first visits to the headquarters in Neckarsulm—everything from Mikado to the lunches to the hotels.
My first classes at the University of Applied Sciences were in October and all the first year students were crammed together in the foyer eager to hear what the head had to say. Once the speech was over, we had to search out our classrooms which was no easy task as the university is quite big. Once we found the right room, we were welcomed by the head of our degree programme.
Looking back at this moment, I can’t believe some of the impressions I had of my classmates back then.
In the blink of an eye, the first exams were upon us which meant Christmas was spent studying rather than enjoying a mulled wine or three at the Christmas markets.
In the new year, it was time to get to know our respective departments and attend trainings which were always a lot of fun. I really enjoyed every day in the office. It was certainly better than studying and all the colleagues were really cool and it was really interesting to get to know colleagues from other Bechtle locations during the training sessions. There were also events such as the Azubi Camp which was the highlight of the year.
As quickly as it had come around, the first year was over. During the second and third years, I was able to tackle several small projects, plus switching between departments gave me an insight into everything.
This was extremely helpful because I now know my future is in sales. I enjoy having contact with the customers, preferring to leave programming to those who know best.
The coronavirus has meant that we’ve had to turn to remote learning, which was more stressful, but meant we only had to write two exams, which was definitely a benefit. We also had to pare down our graduation party.
Looking back, I can say this was a wonderful time at a great company, supported by fantastic colleagues. I was not only given a lot of opportunities, but a lot of independence. I was entrusted with working independently and was given plenty of time for university projects and exams. If I could do it all again, I would definitely choose to study at Bechtle and can only recommend that you apply.
All I can say is stay motivated and believe in yourselves and you’ll see it’s not as hard as you think. I hope you will be able to experience the feeling of handing in the last exam—it is indescribable!
