Weimar—for most people, the name probably conjures up famous historical figures like Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Friedrich Schiller and Johann Sebastian Bach, the minimalism of the Bauhaus architectural style, or the Weimar Republic, founded in 1919 and the foundation for modern democracy. However, in a city that is primarily known for its past and cultural influence, there is now a momentum for advancing digitalisation in all areas of our lives.
Bechtle Weimar-Legefeld has a not inconsiderable influence on this future digitalisation. The Bechtle branch is the largest IT system house, not only in Thuringia but the whole of central Germany—the indisputable number one! The wide-ranging infrastructure commerce and IT service offering covers business applications(Microsoft and Citrix), network and security, data centre and virtualisation, monitoring and IT operational support on the customer’s site. Key partners are Fujitsu, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and ARUBA, Dell, Cisco, VMware and Microsoft.
The history of the system house itself goes back to 1990 when it was established in an industrial park in Legefeld, Weimar. The peaceful area in the rural south of Weimar and the easy access to the A4 motorway make Legefeld the ideal location for an IT provider. The branch has been part of the Bechtle Group since 1996 and has grown continuously.
It is now home to 72 employees, 49 in services and 23 in purchasing and sales. The team of technicians, systems engineers, and purchasing and sales staff is headed by Tilo Müller, managing director of the system house for almost four years now.
As even cutting-edge hardware and the most advanced software are little use without experienced users, the branch in Weimar houses a training centre offering a wide range of courses on IT systems and programs. From basic courses on Excel, C# programming, and advanced virtualisation with VMWare, there’s something for everyone! Moreover, the training centre is a certified PearsonVUE test centre and offers the opportunity to take tests for renowned vendors such as Microsoft, VMWare, Adobe, and many others. Even vendor-neutral certifications such as the CompTIA N+ can be taken and awarded in the Weimar test centre.
“Change is the only constant” is a very fitting motto for IT in general, but this year it is even more apt for Bechtle Weimar. In addition to constructing a new, modern office building, Bechtle is particularly pleased to have acquired 13 new employees and three additional trainees in 2019. Bechtle Weimar is currently training up three systems integration technicians and a sales employee for office management. The Azubis spend their time divided between all departments in order to get to know as many roles and colleagues as possible. This year, two more Azubis have successfully completed their training and assumed their new positions within the Bechtle team. Weimar even offers training to become an IT systems sales person. 😊
