Particularly close cooperation at Dell Technologies World 2019: Satya Nadella, CEO Microsoft; Michael Dell, Chairman and CEO, Dell Technologies; plus Pat Gelsinger, CEO of the Dell Technologies company VMware, announced the further development of their partnership. In the near future, customers will have access to exciting new possibilities for the building of hybrid and multi-cloud environments. At the core of the new products announced is wireless migration and operation of VMware-based workloads and applications directly on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.
Azure VMware Solutions will offer fully supported VMware environments in Azure. This means that users can run, manage and back up applications such as their locally operated resources in the cloud with their usual operating systems This has the following benefits: Any investments already made in technology and skills do not go to waste and tried and tested tools can continue to be used, including VMware vSphere, vSAN, NSX and vCenter. At the same time, Cloud operation enables companies to fully exploit Azure’s strengths in scalability, performance and innovation to further develop their digital infrastructure.
In this way, validated scenarios can be implemented to consolidate the data centre (by moving applications to the cloud) as well as to expand it as needed (setting up a hybrid cloud) without having to change applications. Additional uses are in the areas of disaster recovery and business continuity as well as in the enrichment of VMware environments with a broad range of Azure devices such as Azure Active Directory, Azure AI and IoT.
Azure VMware Solutions have been available since the end of April in the USA and will soon be deployed in western Europe.
Digital Workspaces made simple.
This closer collaboration between Microsoft and Dell Technologies also has an effect on the vendors' virtual desktop solutions. VMware Workspace ONE—platform for digital workplaces—can also be used in the future to manage and secure Office 365 services across multiple devices. For this reason, Workspace ONE has been integrated with Microsoft Intune and Azure Active Directory Premium via cloud interfaces. This gives companies additional options for the seamless provisioning of modern IT workplaces in the course of their digital strategy.
