Bechtle signs UN Global Compact.
In September, Bechtle joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). The world's largest initiative for sustainable and responsible corporate management is supported by the United Nations and comprises more than 13,000 participants. By signing it, Bechtle commits itself to integrating the ten sustainability principles of the UN Global Compact from the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption into its corporate strategy and to implementing them in all its business activities. With its official participation, Bechtle underlines its own claim to make an active contribution to a strong, solidarity-based and vital society.

But corporate responsibility is not a new topic on Bechtle’s agenda—more than five years ago, Bechtle established a Sustainability Committee, who, together with the Executive Board, developed the Bechtle Sustainability Code. An annual Sustainability Report has documented the corporate group’s activities ever since. “Bechtle is and always has been a future-oriented company, with our success due in large part to our commitment to embracing the big picture, rather than investing in short-sighted gains. Joining the UN Global Compact is therefore a logical move for us,” says Dr Thomas Olemotz, CEO of Bechtle AG. Bechtle is also a signatory of the WIN Charta, a sustainability management initiative for companies in the state of Baden-Württemberg.

 

 

Additionally, the international CSR agency, Ecovadis, awarded the Bechtle Group 54 points and a silver medal with this above average rating. “Compared to the previous year’s audit, Bechtle has gone up six points. We’re really pleased with this, because it is an impressive demonstration that we have been successful with our measures and motivates us for the next levels,” explains Dr Nicole Diehlmann, responsible for Sustainability, Corporate Communications. The Ecovadis certificate is valid until September 2019 and can be requested by customers and other interested parties.

The ten principles of the UN Global Compact

Human rights:
  • Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights;
  • Business should make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.

Labour

  • Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
  • Business should advocate the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
  • Business should advocate the effective abolition of child labour;
  • Business should advocate the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Environment

  • Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
  • Businesses should undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and
  • Businesses should encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Anti-corruption

  • Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
