“Our dedicated business segment has been focussed on the public sector for many years. With over 50 colleagues from across the Bechtle units, we have been able to lend weight to our commitment to the public sector market in Berlin," explained Gerhard Marz, Head of Public Sector at Bechtle, on their presence in Berlin. The event integrated an exhibition, a lecture programme, further education offers and a specialist congress with numerous side events, start-up pitches and hackathons.
In total, 130 partners took part with some 500 speakers across six stages. Many Bechtle employees also contributed to the approximately 150-hour programme with lectures and workshops. “In its first year, the Smart Country Convention has already established itself as the leading platform for the digitalisation of administrations and public services”, says Bitkom President Achim Berg about the new event. As this year’s partner country, Denmark brought some international experience. According to the European Commission, UN and OECD, Denmark and its administrations are the most digitally advanced in Europe. Danish ambassador Friis Arne Petersen explains: “Digital innovation is essential if we Europeans are to maintain our role as pioneers.”
As divisional director for public clients / public business at Bechtle AG, Gerhard Marz was of course on site at the Smart Country Convention. The video shows how he defines a Smart Country, how he views the digitalisation of the public sector in Germany, which projects Bechtle is driving forward in this area and what he is taking with him from the Smart Country Convention.
