A Look Back on Bechtle’s 2017 Competence Days.

In the age of nearly unbounded digitalisation, which has already transformed myriad industries, companies depend more than ever on their IT to drive success. At the same time, IT has never had more options for turning complex projects into reality. At this year’s Competence Days, held in Neckarsulm in early April, Bechtle Group companies presented various ways for designing modular, hybrid and dynamic infrastructures.

The two-day event attracted 2,600 visitors, who attended a total of 76 expert presentations on agility-enhancing solutions—from getting the most out of your application management to hyperconverged data centre technology and robust zero-day protection strategies. IT security was a popular topic this year, with no fewer than 11 presentations exploring its different facets. Attendees were then able to delve deeper into the ideas put forward in one-on-one discussions with the experts—a characteristic feature of Bechtle’s Competence Days.

The Bechtle Softwarelösungen GmbH stand, for instance gave visitors a first-hand look at a field-service control centre running Microsoft Azure IoT and Dynamics 365 technology. A temperature sensor connected to a Raspberry Pi computer was used to simulate a status assessment, which in turn was linked to a full workflow solution. Covering everything from clearly structured dashboard monitoring and efficient service coordination to the processing of field service deployments, this solution is performant on all types of end devices.Bernd Krakau, Managing Director of Bechtle Clouds GmbH, also took the stage to give an overview of Bechtle’s expanded cloud portfolio, followed by discussions with customers. In addition to integrating and operating cutting-edge private cloud solutions, Bechtle is introducing a user-friendly online portal for efficient access to public cloud services and exclusive Bechtle services. As a multi-cloud service provider, we help our customers develop hybrid IT infrastructures—an increasingly important topic—and take advantage of the latest technology quickly.

Guest presenter Sebastian Danninger, who heads up IT services and software development at the Kufstein Tirol University of Applied Sciences, walked visitors through a concrete example of successful hybridisation involving e-mail and Office applications. Implemented in cooperation with the Bechtle IT System House Austria, the solution meets the high-availability and storage criteria required to deploy advanced collaboration tools for a modern university administration.

In addition, Bechtle’s modern workplace specialists demonstrated innovative collaboration methods, explaining how the touch-enabled Cisco Spark and Microsoft Surface Hub seamlessly combine meetings and video conferences with collaborative document editing and a whiteboard feature. Enthusiasts were able to experience how intuitively the new workplace and conference-room solutions handle, both at event stands and in the new demo environment, which is open to visitors at Bechtle headquarters at any time.
