Digital Evolution: Bechtle Competence Days and beyond.
The expectations are huge: ‘Digitalisation’ is on everyone’s lips. Transformation is in the air. While some companies are still planning their next move, others are already well on their way. What they all need is a sound understanding of IT as the driving force to make it all happen. The 2018 Bechtle Competence Days provided the perfect opportunity to expand horizons.
Demand was high for the 14th edition of the event at Bechtle Platz 1, the group headquarters in Neckarsulm, with 3,120 participants setting a new record on 11 and 12 April. In addition to exceeding the mark of 3,000 visitors for the first time, more than 90 presentations were held by experts from the entire Bechtle Group. There has never been a wider choice of topics, divided into Business Applications, Modern Workplace, Data Centre, Networking and Security. Trend topics such as Artificial Intelligence and professional 3D printing as well as a special program for the public sector clients were also presented.
Bechtle CIO Harald Weickert’s presentation on “The Path from the Legacy Data Centre to the Hybrid World” showed that digital evolution is not only about technological change, but also about ways of thinking, processes, procedures and systems, visible in the changes in digital infrastructure and the working methods of Bechtle itself. After all, you have to embrace change to drive it.
Live demonstrations by the Bechtle specialists Modus Consult, HCV Data and the Competence Centre for Deep Learning, High Performance and Grid Computing offered up-close insights into technologies with great potential for the future. In the exhibition area, visitors learned about the possibilities of virtual reality in business by testing out data headsets such as Microsoft HoloLens in combination with powerful software. Whether you talk sales, product development, manufacturing, training or service, a new perspective means that numerous processes can be optimised or completely redesigned today.
The hyper-converged infrastructure solutions presented by Bechtle’s manufacturing partners also offered hands-on Digital Evolution. Complexity reduction in IT has never been more tangible thanks to networks, servers and storage combined in the most compact forms with greatly simplified management. The Bechtle cloud experts also provided very specific information on the development of robust and secure hybrid scenarios to expand IT horizons even further. Expanding horizons was also the focus for the Bechtle specialists for school IT, who easily transformed an exhibition space into the classroom of the future, equipped with only a pen, (electronic) sponge and a whiteboard. Final examination: passed.
In short: With a comprehensive programme of presenters and the dialogue with numerous experts from the Bechtle Group, the Competence Days once again provided reliable strategic and technical orientation. In addition, the strong customer response underscored the undiminished importance of personal exchange for the further development of IT and business models.
