Project objectives.

Following in-depth consultation with Bechtle, Albert Zieger GmbH wished to use its existing hardware landscape as a basis for a SAP HANA server infrastructure and integrate the existing NetApp storage systems. The goal was to implement a mirrored production and highly available QA system. The customer also required a development system for new applications

We wanted to migrate our ERP system to SAP HANA so that we could perform analyses and transactions in real time using the in-memory platform. Thanks to its expertise in SAP and HPE, Bechtle was able to deliver an on-premises solution as requested. Their competent, accommodating advice with regard to hardware sizing and SAP HANA contributed significantly towards achieving the perfect solution.

Andreas Mesch, IT Infrastructure Manager, Albert Ziegler GmbH

The SAP HANA on-premises solution that Bechtle designed for Albert Ziegler GmbH was implemented on an HPE server solution at the Giengen an der Brenz location. Bechtle installed HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen9 servers, which provide the basis for the SAP HANA tailored data centre integration (TDI) solution. This comprises production, test and development systems as well as various apps such as Solution Manager. The customer’s existing NetApp metro cluster, consisting of two FAS 8040s, was directly integrated into the concept. Data backup takes place on a NetApp FAS2554 using CommVault, which is SAP HANA certified. In addition, the data on the FAS2554 are backed up to tape via the Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP). And finally, Albert Ziegler GmbH now uses VMware for all system mirroring. Bechtle and HPE have implemented the bare server infrastructure at Albert Ziegler, in addition to VMware, Linux and SAP. Furthermore, Bechtle provided professional advice during and after the implementation, in the form of workshops and downstream WebEx meetings delivered by Bechtle presales consultants. In order to safeguard the entirely new server infrastructure, Albert Ziegler also decided to purchase a HPE 5-year Proactive Care pack, which also covers both VMware and Linux in addition to the HPE DL580 servers.

Business benefits.

Thanks to its new servers, Albert Ziegler GmbH can implement SAP HANA as its new ERP system directly on site and is not dependent on a hosting partner. Bechtle’s sophisticated design allowed the client’s existing components to be integrated into the new server infrastructure. The professional preparation carried out jointly by Albert Ziegler and Bechtle allows the company to retrieve data in real time from the in-memory platform. SAP HANA’s agile data management system offers a host of new opportunities in terms of analysis and transactions. The in-memory database of the SAP HANA platform delivers precise, up-to-date answers in a fraction of a second.
