All Eyes on the Bechtle Data Centre.

Augmented reality (AR) has found its way into the Bechtle warehouse, making us the first company worldwide to use SAP’s AR Warehouse Picker app in productive operations. Gone are the days when warehouse employees relied exclusively on their barcode scanners as they walked the aisles, picking products. Now they can work entirely hands-free, thanks to smart glasses that visually display and even audibly communicate the successive steps of the picking process.

The goal of smart glasses is to boost efficiency and ensure water-tight processes. Following an intensive testing phase, Bechtle has paired Vuzix smart glasses with SAP’s Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) system and AR Warehouse Picker app to pick products within the hub’s small-parts department. The partners who made this innovation a reality are working to continually improve the solution, aiming in the medium term to expand the use of smart glasses throughout the warehouse. These wearables feature a high-resolution 5 MP camera as well as a fast, powerful scanner and a 1.2 GHz processor with 1 GB RAM. They’re also user-friendly, with four control buttons. A speaker and noise-suppressing microphone for voice input take functionality and efficiency to the next level.

The SAP Warehouse Picker software runs on Android 4.04 and is updated via an integrated micro USB connection for a future-proof solution in warehouse logistics.
