"When someone asks me what exactly the big advantage of ChatGPT & Co. is and what the best 5 use cases for working with the tools would be, I always get pensive.
Explaining in 5 minutes how a technology that is about to revolutionise the way we work and live works is too much for me. The people who want this short answer are often looking for confirmation that the technology is actually "not that good" or "needs a few more years".
Most of the time, the conversation is polite but not productive. Interlocutors feel vindicated because they have the feeling that they are "not really missing anything" and I am frustrated because an opportunity has been missed. The chance to reach for the door. The chance to create the aha moment and the chance to open the door for another person into a world that will be different from the world we know.
I gather completely different experiences in the workshops that I organise together with the Bechtle company. Curious specialists and managers take part because they have the feeling that something fundamental is changing that they shouldn't miss out on.
Nobody comes to these workshops to become an AI expert. Fortunately, because that is not the goal. The aim of these online events is to make it easier to enter this new world. To experience the magic of what is possible with this technology.
To see live on screen what ChatGPT & Co. can and cannot do. To learn that effective communication with large language models is not reserved for prompt engineering experts, but is based on clear strategies, principles and techniques that can be learnt.
To discuss which guidelines are necessary to equip oneself to deal with this technology. And most importantly: to see many different application examples.
At the end of these events, participants often speak of "aha moments", a "revelation", "time well spent" or simply say "thank you".
Participants are often enthusiastic about these days, even though they do not yet have a ChatGPT or Copilot account. Even though some of them have no previous experience.
I now believe that one of the main added values of these events is being able to sit back and simply experience "what ChatGPT & Co. can do". The big advantage of this seems to be that participants don't have to go to the trouble of experimenting themselves, but are served the A-Z of ChatGPT & Co. "on a silver platter".
It is also a relief in preliminary discussions when it becomes clear that the knowledge imparted can be used universally in these events. Although many examples are shown with ChatGPT and Bing Copilot, the knowledge acquired can be applied to all tools that use generative AI.
Some participants use the word "driving licence" to describe the events, others describe them as "flying in the cockpit of an aircraft as a co-pilot without having any responsibilities".
