The most important tool of a service manager is the way of communication.

Service Manager at Bechtle Schweiz AG - a varied role.

Daniel, you are a Service Manager at Bechtle Schweiz AG. What kind of role is that?

It's a very varied role: as a Service Manager, I have the opportunity to look after various customers from very different industries in the SME environment and support them in their daily IT challenges. This allows the customers to concentrate on their core business.

 

What does a service manager absolutely have to be able to do?

In my opinion, the most important tool of a service manager is his way of communicating; he must be able to quickly put himself in different situations and then act in a solution-oriented manner. In order to be able to solve his tasks quickly, he is dependent on various internal and external suppliers - of course he has to coordinate these well with each other. That's why communication is so essential.

 

What makes your job so special?

I get to work with different people from different companies and cultures, externally and internally. I look after clients of different sizes from different sectors and deal with many suppliers. This mix makes for an enormously exciting and varied environment.

 

How do your clients benefit from your work?

Because I look after different clients from different sectors, the clients benefit indirectly from each other. A current example of this is security audits, which many clients request. At the moment, the threat level is very high, so security is an issue for everyone. Here, I can optimally support the customers, as the questions are similar in each case. In each customer context, of course, there are always other aspects that I take into account - that's how you learn more and more over time.   

 

Is there something you are particularly proud of in your job?

I'm always happy when I can support customers with their IT needs and help them with problems. And when I develop customers so that they can obtain comprehensive services from our portfolio and these services noticeably advance the customer's business. That makes me happy.
