Neckarsulm, 12 March 2026 – Bechtle AG is expanding its consulting portfolio with an innovative offering designed to determine the digital sovereignty of companies and public‑sector organisations. The Bechtle Index of Sovereignty (BIoS) combines a structured evaluation of key business processes with in‑depth consulting delivered by certified IT business architects. Using proprietary Bechtle software, customers can determine their individual level of digital sovereignty based on consolidated data and monitor how it evolves over time. The software reflects both real‑world developments and potential future scenarios. Bechtle is piloting the BIoS assessment in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, with further European markets to follow.
The Bechtle Index of Sovereignty gives decision‑makers in both the private and public sectors a new, objective benchmark for their organisation’s digital sovereignty. The assessment examines data autonomy, technological independence and organisational capabilities across key business and administrative processes. At its core is a software‑based analysis of IT components and application services, structured around a detailed criteria framework and enhanced by AI‑supported data aggregation. A standardised survey also captures the customer’s existing in‑house capabilities, incorporating them as a key indicator of their ability to act independently and shape their digital landscape. Bechtle consultants guide customers through the entire sovereignty assessment—from the initial groundwork to a detailed final report offering actionable recommendations.
Strengthening planning certainty and compliance
The assessment provides structured insights into business‑critical processes and the wider organisational architecture. Alongside a fact‑based situational assessment, it identifies and prioritises specific areas for action to sustainably increase an organisation’s level of digital sovereignty. Scenario analyses enable customers to evaluate and compare alternative technologies before making a purchasing decision, ensuring organisations can choose solutions with confidence. The structured documentation generated through BIoS also supports compliance with regulatory requirements such as GDPR, KRITIS, NIS2 and DORA.
“The Bechtle Index of Sovereignty is a flexible, comprehensive tool that enables our customers to analyse the resilience and manageability of their digital infrastructures with confidence. The assessment provides a reliable basis for evaluating digital sovereignty and supports the development of strategic and operational measures to strengthen robust overall architectures,” says Dr Martin Kaloudis, Executive Vice President, Bechtle AG.
