SONNENBERG attaches great importance to the security and availability of its IT systems in order to ensure daily operations and the protection of sensitive data. Increasing threats from cyber attacks, such as ransomware, led the organisation to ask itself the question: ‘Are we sufficiently prepared for an emergency?’

Although there were initial approaches on how to deal with such situations, there was no comprehensive roadmap that covered not only technical, but also organisational and communication aspects. Against this background, the decision was made to develop a customised IT emergency manual with Bechtle in order to prepare the organisation holistically for potential incidents.

Solution.

A comprehensive IT emergency manual was developed in close co-operation with Bechtle. The focus was not only on securing the IT systems, but also on defining clear processes for internal and external communication. The most important steps:

  • Risk management and prioritisation:
    Analysis of all IT services, definition of recovery targets (RTO and RPO) and prioritisation of the most important systems and data.
  • Customised emergency scenarios:
    Developing scenarios that go beyond typical IT outages - such as ransomware attacks, physical damage or interruptions to medical care.
  • Clear communication channels:
    Definition of processes and templates for internal and external communication, including the involvement of regulatory bodies such as data protection authorities or the police.
  • Customised content:
    The document has been specially adapted to the requirements of educational and healthcare institutions. Special features such as dependencies on medical processes were taken into account.

Through regular coordination and feedback loops, the manual was optimised step by step. The close co-operation between Bechtle consultants and the SONNENBERG team ensured maximum transparency and efficiency.
