Microsoft Fabric Overview

What is Microsoft Fabric?

Microsoft Fabric is Microsoft’s modern data and AI platform. It consolidates multiple data services together in a single environment built on a shared data layer called OneLake. Where you previously needed different tools such as Data Factory, Synapse or Power BI, Fabric unifies these capabilities in one platform to create smooth interaction between data integration, data engineering, analytics and reporting.

The result is reduced complexity and faster insight, supported by one central source of truth.

At the heart of Microsoft Fabric is OneLake—a central storage layer where data is stored once and then made available to all workloads. The platform uses open standards such as Delta and Parquet, keeping data flexible and ready for the future.

The logical next step after Power BI.

Chances are that your organisation already uses Power BI for dashboards and reports. Microsoft Fabric builds on this foundation by replacing traditional Power BI Premium licences with Fabric Capacities (F‑SKUs). This new capacity model allows analytics, data engineering and AI workloads to run on the same platform.

If your organisation already works with Power BI, Fabric is often the natural next step towards a modern data platform.

Discover our approach – From the first idea to a data platform.

A successful data platform is not built in a single step, which is why Bechtle works with a phased approach.

1. Inspiration session.

We begin with an inspiration session that introduces you to Microsoft Fabric You see live examples, learn from practical use cases and explore Microsoft Fabric yourself.

2. Discovery.

The discovery phase focuses on the outcomes your organisation truly wants to achieve. We analyse KPIs, define them clearly and translate them into specific reporting needs. Workspace and role setups are defined at this stage, creating a solid foundation for insights that genuinely support decision‑making.

3. Architecture.

The next step is a suitable data architecture. We design the ETL process, connect applications and set clear agreements for setup and management. Based on this design, we configure Microsoft Fabric technically, giving you a scalable, future‑ready data platform.

4. Implementation and migration.

Depending on your needs, we migrate workloads and Power BI workspaces or support you with advice and guidance. You always end up with the same result—a modern data platform where analytics, automation and AI come together.
