Carl Haisch set out to raise the bar for network security at its main site in Dornstetten and seven additional locations—including fuel stations, car washes, a bike centre and building supply stores. With licences for the existing solution about to expire, the timing was perfect to switch to a next-generation firewall. The goal? Comprehensive, modern protection for the entire infrastructure. At the top of the wish list? A powerful firewall solution that delivers a stable IT environment, is easy to manage and meets the highest security standards—seamlessly integrated across all sites.

To lay the foundation for a comprehensive security concept, Bechtle first carried out a Threat and Vulnerability Assessment (TVA). Following vendor-neutral advice, it became clear that a modern Sophos firewall would meet all the requirements of the mineral oil and building materials specialist. Bechtle then rolled out the firewalls site by site—two per location—creating high-availability clusters to ensure resilience. The schedule was tight: within just a few weeks, Bechtle and Carl Haisch equipped all eight sites with new Sophos firewalls, braving snow, wind and rain along the way. Firewall rules were rebuilt in line with existing policies and best practices, new security features were implemented, and routing was adapted. Today, features such as IPS, application control and web filtering are standard at Carl Haisch. After on-site installation, Bechtle established side-to-side connections between all devices. Integrated into Sophos Central, the firewalls can now be managed and monitored centrally, with rules fine-tuned during live operation. The result: a security landscape that not only protects the family business but also gives it the confidence to grow securely into the future.
