Challenge.

Doppelmayr set out to onboard 3,500 employees worldwide onto a unified digital workplace—one platform for everyone, with a single login for everything. The goal? To simplify, accelerate and secure IT across all subsidiaries. That meant replacing isolated systems with a standardised global environment spanning no fewer than 50 countries, including Exchange Online for e-mail, Teams for collaboration, and Intune for device management. Fully cloud-based, flexible and secure, the new digital workplace also needed to scale effortlessly with future developments and the organisation’s evolving needs.

Solution.

Together with Bechtle, Doppelmayr developed a tailored strategy for a unified, secure workplace across six continents. The foundation was Microsoft 365, Azure and a state-of-the-art security architecture. The goal? To simplify a complex IT landscape with a central platform and a One Identity strategy. To achieve this, Doppelmayr consolidated its identity infrastructure and merged multiple M365 tenants into a single global one using structured tenant-to-tenant migrations and cross-tenant synchronisation. For hybrid identity management, Bechtle recommended Azure AD Connect and Entra ID, enabling centralised user administration. Next came the global migration of all mailboxes to Exchange Online, secured by a role-based access model.

Microsoft Teams and SharePoint were introduced as central collaboration platforms in over 50 countries. A governance framework with templates, naming conventions and approval workflows ensures clear structures. Doppelmayr also introduced a governance model for the Power Platform, enabling scalable, compliant use across the organisation. An Azure Landing Zone laid the foundation for a secure, expandable cloud infrastructure. At the same time, Doppelmayr rolled out Microsoft Intune, allowing central management of mobile devices—from handheld scanners to smartphones.

With Conditional Access and AutoPilot, new devices are automatically configured and ready for use anywhere in the world. While Doppelmayr’s Corp IT team worked behind the scenes with Bechtle to prepare the rollout, a regional partner supported user adoption with training, communication and change management. The result being a digital workplace that connects all locations worldwide—standardised, secure and ready for the future.
