Challenge.
For more than three decades, Marché has been known for fresh market cuisine, and in more than 50 restaurants and six countries, the guests are always at the heart of the action, as the meals are cooked live in an open kitchen, and made with natural, preferably local ingredients. Marché Mövenpick is a household name in Croatia at airports and service stations. Croatia has been a member of the European Union since 2013 and after joining the eurozone in 2023, has switched from using its previous currency, the kuna, to the euro, which of course affected Marché Mövenpick Croatia’s accounting. Along with the cash register systems that had to be able to calculate in euro from the beginning of 2023 onwards, all the accounting data from the archive from the last ten years also had to be converted. Marché Mövenpick uses SAP running in the cloud on Microsoft Azure for its accounting. The last time the restaurant chain changed a currency in SAP was in 2011, which meant that most knowledge of the process had been lost or forgotten and that they now needed an expert that could help them to tackle this complex challenge. And as Bechtle already managed both SAP Finance (FI) and Controlling (CO) modules for the company, the IT service provider was also entrusted with this urgent task.
Bechtle managed to convert our Croatian systems into euro in good time and at short notice, which is an astounding feat for a project of this size. Collaboration with them was excellent and companies that are as precise and disciplined as Bechtle are few and far between. When it comes to SAP, Bechtle really has some great experts.

Solution.
In a unified effort with Marché Mövenpick Croatia, Bechtle took a methodical approach to distributing tasks for the currency conversion in workshops. First, Bechtle carefully checked all the existing data in the SAP system to find out what had to be changed and corrected, then working together with Marché’s FI/CO team in Croatia, all the necessary changes and configurations to the systems were discussed and decided on. In parallel to a data analysis, Bechtle started a test system on Azure in a sandbox in which the restaurant chain could simulate the conversion to euros, giving Marché the possibility to identify mistakes before they happened, and Bechtle the chance to fix them. Once all the necessary corrections had been made, all the systems were adjusted and the old postings had been converted, the only thing remaining was the annual financial statement. For this however, the euro conversion had to have been carried out already in order for Marché Mövenpick to be able to successfully introduce the euro in Croatia. Tests runs showed that all SAP systems had been converted and were in working order. After making some final adjustments and finishing off the annual financial statement, Bechtle was able to successfully execute the conversion into euro with the help of tools built into SAP.
Business benefits.
Thanks to Bechtle’s timely conversion, Marché International was also able to convert its own SAP systems, cash registers and accounting to the euro right in time for Croatia’s admission to the single currency. The steps required were carried out by Bechtle with the utmost precision and care, enabling Marché Mövenpick Croatia to start the new year with a euro-ready SAP system.
