Challenge.

Jauch Quartz GmbH has been producing reliable and secure frequency control products such as highly precise quartzes, oscillators and MEMS oscillators in Villingen-Schwenningen since 1953. The family-owned company is also known for its lithium-ion and lithium-polymer battery packs, which are used in medical technology, garden and household appliances, mobile phones, mobile locomotion and the automotive sector. Jauch distributes its products worldwide from Germany, France, Great Britain and the USA. State-of-the-art test environments, fast delivery and one of the world’s largest warehouses for frequency control components set the Jauch Group apart from the competition.

To ensure that customers from all over the world can be supplied promptly, Jauch invested in state-of-the-art production facilities and a modern battery assembly line for technically sophisticated battery solutions at its German site. The company’s IT environment has already been modernised with Microsoft Office 365 E3 and Exchange Hybrid to the latest Cloud technology services. In order to run this environment continually, Jauch was searching for external support. The aim was to leverage an agile and flexible IT that enables a secure and reliable operation of business. Jauch also wanted to slim down IT administration without employees having to forfeit any of their familiar applications. It was time to take a further step into the cloud: In future, all applications will be run in the cloud, all files will be saved on OneDrive and collaboration improved via services such as Teams.

With Microsoft 365, we can better handle today's fast-moving and complex digital world. The open, constructive, and goal-oriented collaboration with Bechtle was crucial to the success of the project. Everyone at our two German locations, as well as in France, England, and the USA, now use Microsoft 365, so everything continued to run online during the Corona pandemic. That was our good fortune and showed us that the decisions we made were right

Solution.

This was the challenge Jauch presented Bechtle with. The IT partner has been by the company’s side for many years, and now, in addition to implementing Microsoft Office 365 E3, was given the task to set up OneDrive, convert Microsoft Exchange to the current hybrid mode of the IT system, and introduce Microsoft Planner and Teams (for calls, among other uses). In addition, the existing Microsoft Surface Hubs had to be extended and the iPhones fitted with a central management system. Bechtle and Jauch collaborated to make the move to a hybrid Microsoft 365 environment, shifting away from administration in the cloud with an on-prem active directory. Employees will continue to save their departmental files on the on-prem intranet file server. For their personal data however, they still have access to OneDrive in the cloud. Bechtle integrated the approx. 200 company client computers into Microsoft Intune as an endpoint manager, rolled out Microsoft 365 E3 on it and transferred iPad and iPhone administration to Microsoft Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS) E3. This enables Jauch to centrally administrate their entire hardware, while their employees can work from home at any time. In a next step, Bechtle introduced Microsoft Teams for digital collaboration and calling, after which they introduced Microsoft Planner and SharePoint Online. Bechtle primarily installed and optimised Surface Hubs.

Business benefits.

After some initial workshops at the end of 2019/beginning of 2020, in February and March 2020, Bechtle made the first steps towards implementation. This meant that Jauch had a uniform, cloud-available IT environment with all its applications in place in time, to cope with the lockdown in March 2020. The employees didn’t require any special training whatsoever—they could work comfortably from their own homes. As an added benefit, the Jauch's simpler IT administration saves a lot of time and money. The company now implements, with support by Bechtle, IT services in the Microsoft 365 environment a lot faster than before, making the entire IT environment more flexible. In addition, security mechanisms by Microsoft 365 now secure Jauch’s IT environment.
