How do order thresholds work?

IN A NUTSHELL

Order thresholds determine whether an order requires approval and who it is routed to. Orders with higher values may need to pass through multiple thresholds.

How order thresholds work

Purpose of order thresholds

  • Order thresholds ensure that higher‑value orders are reviewed before they are placed.
  • They help enforce internal procurement policies and budget limits.

How it works

  • When a user submits an order that exceeds a threshold value, it is routed to the approver assigned to that threshold.
  • Order thresholds are based on the order value.
  • An order can pass through multiple thresholds in sequence, with different approvers involved at each level.

Sequential order thresholds

  • Depending on your configuration, multiple thresholds can apply based on the order value.
  • Each threshold must be approved before the order can move on.
  • The number of thresholds and their values can be configured.

Who is involved

  • The submitter initiates the order.
  • Approvers review the order and can approve, decline, or modify it.
  • Administrators configure order thresholds and assign them to users.

Benefits

  • Clear insight into who reviews and approves higher‑value orders.
  • Better compliance with procurement policies and budget limits.
  • Fewer incorrect or unauthorised orders.
