Make your workplace greener with Project Replay

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the voluntary integration of processes and strategies that oblige companies to consider how they impact the society and environments in which they work. Project Replay is our step towards a greener way of working in which sustainability plays an important role.

One of the goals of Project Replay is to keep our emissions in check and to off-set them. Because we do not manufacture our products in-house, we have limited impact on the production process. Fortunately, we have found a way to become more sustainable.

With our DAAS solution, we can map out our carbon footprint per IT seat. How? We’ve identified four components that impact our CO2 emissions: hardware, logistics, packaging, and Replay Services

Let’s have a closer look at the different components.

Carbon footprint

Hardware

When it comes to hardware, we focus on our primary devices (phones, tablets, laptops and desktops) to calculate the carbon footprint. We work together with trusted vendors who also have an approach to sustainability and are transparent with their CO2 emissions.

Vendors we work with within our DAAS solution include:

  • Apple
  • HP
  • Lenovo
  • Samsung

Logistics

In our second component we analyse the total lifecycle of our DAAS solution to see how much CO2 we emit based on these different stages:

  • Onboarding
  • SWAP
  • Starters/leavers
  • End of contract devices

Furthermore, we investigate whether the devices were shipped by truck, train, or plane. We also pay close attention to our logistics partners who each have their own approach to CSR, with some having already emitted their transport emissions.

Sustainability

Packaging

We make our delivery service more sustainable by working with 80% recycled boxes and paper, this applies to our single boxes as well as our bulk boxes. To map out our full carbon footprint, we also need to include all the materials we use regarding packaging.

These include:

  • Eco-friendly cardboard for DAAS onboarder/starter, SWAP/mover, leaver/refresh and end of life shipments – bulk and single packaging
  • Innovative bulk packaging fully produced in cardboard and transported on eco pallets, no wooden pallets are needed;
  • Bulk packaging can be reused up to five times
  • Using HP PageWide printing technology and Articona ink in refilled, recycled cartridges to print all accompanying documentation in our Maastricht Service Hub
  • FSC paper used for the accompanying documentation consisting of 80% recycled material and sourced from sustainably managed forests (replanting trees)

Replay Services

The last component for our carbon footprint calculation is “Replay Services”. In this component, we focus on the following services:

  • Asset audit: itemisation of assets at a unique identifier level (IMEI, Serial, MPN, etc.);
  • Data wipe: total and permanent systematic removal of all data using ADISA approved software and processes;
  • Data destruction: where data cannot be removed systematically, data baring modules can be removed, logged and destroyed with evidence;
  • Diagnostics and grading: systematic testing of functionality and cosmetic grading;
  • Repair: approved repair of devices;

All components combined ensure a clear picture of the CO2 emissions produced by our DAAS solution. The next step in our journey towards sustainability is to off-set or remove our emissions completely.

Carbon off-set & removal projects

So, what happens next? By mapping out the carbon footprint of our DAAS solution, we know how many tonnes of CO2 per IT seat we need to off-set.

Once we know how much we emit, we buy carbon credits to off-set our CO2 which are designed to make supply chains climate-friendly and to off-set unavoidable emissions from the supply chain. These carbon credits are spent on climate and development programs around the world.

Our sustainability partners

It is important for you to know that we work with non-profit organisations who focus on international projects that reduce CO2 emissions (e.g. clean cooking with biogas or solar energy to replace wood-burning). The projects focus on renewable energy, energy-saving and forest planting or forest conservation.

The projects comply with the Gold Standard. On top of this, there are extra requirements on the social-economic level, such as a fair price for carbon credits and the way farmers receive their payments.
