Mr. Baur, what makes Dell APEX so special and why is it an interesting alternative to conventional IT management for companies?
Marcel Baur: Dell APEX offers a completely new way of using IT infrastructure. Instead of incurring high one-off expenses for servers, storage or other systems, companies can simply subscribe to their IT infrastructure. The special thing about it is that they only pay for the resources they actually use. And it's not just about storage capacity or new servers in the data center. Dell APEX covers the entire IT, including client devices, management tools, backup or hosting in your own data center or in the cloud. This not only saves costs, but also makes companies and their IT more flexible. This allows them to react quickly to changes, regardless of whether they need to expand IT capacities quickly, support growth or reduce costs. Especially against the background of the current shortage of skilled workers and increasingly complex IT landscapes, Dell APEX subscriptions can solve all these challenges.
That sounds good. But what specific benefits do Dell APEX services offer in terms of skills shortages and resource bottlenecks?
Marcel Baur: Many companies are faced with the challenge of finding sufficiently qualified IT personnel. There is not much left on the labor market. Dell APEX solves this problem with its as-a-service and subscription solutions. Instead of permanent employees, specialists from Dell or a partner such as Bechtle manage the IT. This allows companies to concentrate on their core business without having to employ their own specialist staff to look after the infrastructure. There is also no need for time-consuming maintenance work or complex capacity planning - all of which can be added with Dell APEX subscriptions. This not only reduces personnel costs, but also simplifies IT organization.
Hybrid scenarios are playing an increasingly important role in IT. Many want to have parts of their data on-prem, while applications and other components run in the cloud. How does Dell APEX support companies in this?
Marcel Baur: Hybrid IT models are actually standard today. Companies want to be able to choose flexibly between cloud and on-prem - and do so deliberately. Dell APEX has recognized this need and offers both a ground-to-cloud and a cloud-to-ground approach. This allows companies to decide which workloads should be outsourced to the cloud and which should remain on-premises. In concrete terms, this means that sensitive or business-critical applications can continue to be operated locally, while less critical workloads use the flexible and scalable cloud. Dell APEX supports both and works hybrid, so that companies can react quickly and flexibly to new circumstances.
Dell APEX also reduces the complexity of IT. How exactly does it work?
Marcel Baur: There are a few functions that could be mentioned. Dell APEX, for example, works with a central management platform. This allows all resources - whether local or in the cloud - to be monitored and controlled centrally via a dashboard. With just a few clicks, you can also adjust capacities, view performance data or optimize operations without having to deal with the technical details. The clients can also be easily subscribed to and managed throughout their lifecycle and decommissioned and recycled at the end of their service life without having to worry about it yourself. What's more: If the company uses a managed service, for example from Dell or Bechtle, responsibility for the entire infrastructure no longer lies with the company itself. Instead, the managed service takes on all the work and the responsibility for ensuring that everything runs smoothly. This saves time, effort and, of course, nerves. Above all, however, you book everything at calculable monthly costs. This makes budgeting easier.
Can hyperscalers such as Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure also be integrated?
Marcel Baur: Of course, Dell APEX can be combined with hyperscaler solutions. And it doesn't matter whether local hyperscaler models or existing cloud infrastructures are to be integrated. Specially pre-configured models make it easy to get started and are quickly ready for use. This allows companies to benefit from the advantages of the major cloud providers without having to convert their entire infrastructure. And, of course, all data protection requirements are also met. Several layers of protection are integrated into Dell APEX for security - above and below the operating system. With the Dell Trusted Workspace, hardware and software are securely protected regardless of location.
It's actually a good thing all round that rethinks IT. But is Dell APEX really the IT of the future?
Marcel Baur: For me, it is clearly the future, because Dell APEX provides the answer to the most pressing questions of modern IT: How can costs remain controllable? How can companies remain flexible and agile? And how can the increasing complexity of IT infrastructures with hybrid models continue to be easily mastered? APEX is not only flexible, but also offers the necessary security and efficiency for companies that are constantly facing new challenges and barely have time to look after their IT. It is not just a service, but a completely new approach to how IT infrastructure is thought of and used.
Thank you very much for the exciting insights!
Marcel Baur: With pleasure!
