Neckarsulm, 27 September 2022 – With its new data centre in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, Bechtle is expanding its capacities for private cloud services in collaboration with colocation provider, PFALZKOM, which operates the twin data centres Rhine-Neckar I and II on the Mutterstadt campus. The new Bechtle data centre is already up and running with the first customer environments already having been successfully migrated. The new PFALZKOM data centres not only deliver outstanding availability and security, but also fulfil essential criteria laid out by the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact.
With this additional data centre infrastructure, Bechtle has significantly expanded its existing Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) capacities. The Mutterstadt data centre also enables the highly-available and scalable operation of private cloud services with numerous SMEs, large corporations and public-sector customers the first to benefit.
“We are seeing a growing demand for hosted private cloud environments, which will be able to operate long into the future at the Rhine-Neckar Campus data centre. Our customers will benefit from a combination of highly available and stable IT systems with a focus on sustainable resource use,” says Dirk Müller-Niessner, Managing Director, Bechtle Hosting & Operations.
TÜV-certified high availability
The individual data centres at the Rhine-Neckar Campus are TÜV-certified to meet Tier 3+ availability criteria, achieving the highest Tier 4 ranking when considered together. The Rhine-Neckar II data centre is characterised by multiple redundant connections through various carriers and is linked to all major exchanges through the PFALZKOM fibre optic backbone. Both data centres are linked to the world’s largest internet exchange, DE-CIX.
Climate-friendly operation
As a signatory of the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact, PFALZKOM has committed itself to the ensuring the climate-friendly operations of its data centres by 2030 as well as to achieve specific energy efficiency values. It has already succeeded in accomplishing some major objectives, for example, the data centres run entirely on renewable energy and have been running on 100% green electricity provided by the group’s parent company, Pfalzwerke AG, for several years. In terms of the key value for energy efficiency—Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE)—the Rhine-Neckar II data centre has already attained the target value of < 1.3, while Rhine-Neckar I is not far behind with a PUE value of < 1.4.
