Neckarsulm/Würzburg, 18 March 2026 – Bechtle is leading the consortium behind the WebMedX project, which aims to make heart‑failure care more digital, more connected and easier to integrate into everyday routines. Together with Würzburg University Hospital, and other technical and academic partners, the consortium is developing a cross‑sector telemedicine platform designed to improve coordination between hospitals, outpatient physicians, nursing staff and patients. The aim is to close gaps in post‑discharge care, lower the risk of readmissions and deliver lasting improvements in treatment, with the digital network intended to serve as a model for other regions and medical conditions.
Heart failure is one of the leading causes of inpatient admission. However, post‑discharge care is often difficult to coordinate, with multiple stakeholders involved and medical information not always available where it is needed. This is where WebMedX comes in, consolidating key data, processes and communication channels to make cross‑sector care easier and faster.
“Heart failure makes it especially clear how vital close coordination between everyone involved really is. With digital infrastructure, we can close gaps in the care pathway and support patients more effectively during a particularly vulnerable phase,” says Professor Stefan Störk, Head of Clinical Research and Heart Failure Epidemiology at the German Centre for Heart Failure in Würzburg.
The project is developing a platform that consolidates medical information in a structured way, creating the foundation for a modern digital care network. In the future, telemedical applications and digital companions such as monitoring solutions, wearables or apps will also be able to be integrated more effectively. What matters in everyday practice is simpler workflows, faster communication and greater transparency across the board.
Bechtle is contributing extensive industry expertise to the consortium through its team of healthcare solutions specialists. As consortium leader, it is responsible for implementing a robust technological framework for the platform and helping translate a critical care concept into a practical digital solution.
“With WebMedX, we are driving digitalisation where it can have immediate impact—on better, more reliable and more connected care. Our aim, together with our medical partners, is to create a solution that genuinely supports people while also serving as a model for other use cases,” says Dr Olaf Iseringhausen, Head of the Healthcare Solutions Team at Bechtle IT System House Bonn.
WebMedX is being developed in several stages—from technical and functional design, through clinical testing in everyday practice, to a gradual rollout to additional partners. The aim is not only to improve care for people with heart failure, but also to create a blueprint for digital care networks that can be applied in other regions and to other medical conditions.
The consortium project is supported through the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space’s funding programme “Medical Technology Solutions for Digital Healthcare”.
