The Challenge.
Digital Cinema Media (DCM) wanted to refresh their office space to better reflect their updated brand guidelines and provide a more creative, functional environment for both staff and events. They reached out to several companies for concepts, but Bechtle stood out by fully understanding DCM’s brief and working closely with them to deliver a solution in line with their requirements.
The project was not without its hurdles: DCM had a set budget for the complete refresh, and there were key dates for upcoming events that required careful scheduling and flexibility. Legal steps and LTA approval introduced delays, as well as several delivery delays along the way too, but in partnership with DCM, Bechtle adapted the programme to accommodate these challenges as best as possible. Environmental responsibility was also a priority, with DCM’s existing furniture being donated to SEN school organisations to avoid landfill, ensuring the refresh was both sustainable and socially conscious.
Key Objectives.
- Develop a versatile space suitable for hosting functions and events.
- Provide a functional and inspiring environment for staff.
- Create a modern office space.
- Deliver the project within the set budget constraints.
- Ensure flexibility in scheduling to meet key event dates.
- Consider environmentally responsible practices.
The Solution.
The proposal was delivered to DCM which not only introduced fresh, new elements, but also supported in the placement of existing artwork, film memorabilia, and planting to keep costs down and reduce waste. Physical mood boards and samples were provided to ensure the design matched expectations.
Bechtle collaborated closely with DCM throughout the design and specification process, ensuring that every requirement was met, while remaining within budget. The solution involved a comprehensive design consultation, office fitout, and furniture selection, all tailored to DCM’s brand and operational needs. Initial consultations helped clarify requirements, while Bechtle’s inhouse designers played a key role in selecting finishes and specifications for the interior look and feel. On-site visits were arranged for design and business development, site surveys, and coordination with building management and landlord teams.
Bechtle and DCM also worked closely with Regent’s Place - a local, community based project that supported with the distribution of DCM’s old furniture/technology to local charities that could repurpose it to minimise waste.
Deployment.
Bechtle managed the delivery of furniture using their warehouse facilities to ensure goods arrived onsite in line with the build programme. The working schedule was carefully coordinated, prioritising the front end of the office so that DCM teams could prepare for key events. Deliveries and works were managed flexibly, with adjustments made to accommodate areas that DCM needed for specific event dates.
The project wasn’t without it’s hurdles, last-minute changes and delays out of everyone’s control, including a delay on LTA approval and lease renewal issues, resulted in unexpected hurdles on the project timeline and budgets. However, Bechtle and DCM worked together closely to overcome these challenges and create an outcome that worked for everyone involved.
After over a decade in our office, the chance to refresh our workspace became a great opportunity to rethink how our space supported our people and the evolving DCM brand. Bechtle stood out for their smart, thoughtful approach.
