Technology in transition – CES 2025 and the flood of innovation.
CES is an annual event at which all the major tech companies present their latest technologies and innovations.
Last year, we saw a significant rise in the number of AI products and it wasn’t long before the trickle turned into a tsunami, converging on CES. Our Workspace Team has waded through this flood of information and picked out the highlights that could change the way you work in 2025.
CES in a nutshell
AI is hogging the spotlight and vendors are throwing around all kinds of names and numbers making it increasingly difficult to see the wood for the trees.
- Dell and HP are changing their series names with the former dropping Latitude, Precision and XPS, and the latter replacing its 400, 600, 800 and 1000 series with new generation devices.
- Lenovo is modernising its product range to focus on updated designs
- Microsoft has fully committed itself to the transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11 with its Copilot+ PCs.
- Microsoft is offering chips from three manufacturers that differ in terms of performance, power consumption and price.
HP
With its new EliteBook Ultra and X G1i Next Gen AI PC series, HP is setting out its stall for the future with AI-ready laptops. These Microsoft Copilot+ certified laptops feature Intel Core Ultra Series 2 Lunar Lake, AMD Ryzen™ AI Pro 300 chips in the X series and Snapdragon X Elite chips in the U series. Both have a powerful NPU with more than 45 TOPS, which allows local AI features to run faster without the need to move data to the cloud. The X series weighs in heavier than the U series and comes with more connection options. Alongside the two Thunderbolt 4 / USB-C ports, the U series also has a pop-out USB-A connector as the classic version no longer fits inside the chassis. For fans of the Dragonfly series, the EliteBook U offers a similar look and feel, but with improved performance per watt and a long battery life.
The new HP ZBook Ultra mobile workstation enables users to carry out tasks not previously feasible on a mobile workstation. This powerhouse packs a AMD Ryzen AI Max PRO processor, powerful graphics cards and 128 GB of RAM making it perfect for heavy-duty CAD, 3D modelling and video editing workflows, with full ISV certifications.
HP’s updated Thunderbolt G6 Docks offer modern convenience with Thunderbolt 4, HP Quick Connect and cloud management for remote firmware updates. And last but not least, the new HP Poly Voyager Legend 50 UC headset features AI noise cancellation and TCO certification.
Lenovo
Lenovo’s ThinkPad X9 Aura Edition combines elegance with advanced Copilot+ AI capabilities. For those for whom design and screen size are important, the seemingly standard ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable offers an extendable screen, perfect for displaying, for example, two windows or apps below one another thanks to much larger screen real estate.
ThinkVision P-series monitors, ranging from 24 to 40 inches, are durable and easy to manage with remote firmware updates. The ThinkCentre Neo 50q QC mini PC offers compactness and power, with impressive performance and AI features powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X-series.
Dell
Dell is breathing new life into its portfolio with three distinct product lines—Dell, Dell Pro and Dell Max each with Base, Plus and Premium tiers. These lighter, durable laptops sport an improved battery life and have been built for the new AI era with the Dell Pro Plus best suiting the largest group of users.
The Dell 32 Plus 4K QD OLED monitor offers an innovative audio experience with active noise-cancellation without the need for headphones, while the UltraSharp 32 4K Thunderbolt Hub Monitor puts well-being first with a blue light filter and the highest attainable 5-star eye comfort rating.
Microsoft
Microsoft is addressing the anticipated wave of modernisation of Windows 10 systems with its Copilot+ PCs providing robust secured-core security and impressive AI capabilities with NPUs exceeding 45 TOPS. Microsoft did not unveil any new hardware at CES, with the emphasis on supporting OEM partners and offering flexibility when it comes to choosing chip manufacturers instead.
NVIDIA
The Blackwell GeForce RTX 50 series takes performance to the next level for demanding AI software and creative apps. NVIDIA’s Project DIGITS Personal AI Computer is a powerful PC for developers to build and test AI models for the entire NVIDIA platform, supporting up to 405 trillion parameters. Today’s largest Llama 3.1 LLM also has 405 trillion parameters.
