Most people know Epson for its printers and projectors, but its history includes Japan’s first ever original-design wristwatch, The Marvel, launched in 1956. The sophisticated micro-machining techniques developed for watch making were then applied to other fields. In the late 1960s, Epson developed the world’s first miniature digital printer in the EP-101 before launching the VPJ-700—one of the first full-colour liquid crystal video projectors. Today Epson has been named the market leader in projectors for seventeen years in a row and has sold some 22.3 million devices since 2006.
Epson’s expertise extends beyond printers and projectors to include innovative production methods, sensor technology and sensors for environmental issues. The company employs over 77,000 people around the world and achieves annual revenues of more than one trillion yen.
