Frequently asked
questions

What is Device as a Service (DAAS)?

Device as a Service is similar to taking out a subscription. Instead of having to invest in purchasing devices, you pay a fixed amount per device, per month. That means you never pay too much – only for what you use. DAAS offers a number of additional services alongside its hardware solutions.

How is DAAS different from leasing hardware?

To a degree, Device as a Service is comparable to leasing hardware. In both cases, you only pay for the use and not for the ownership of the devices. However, the difference is that in leasing you become the owner of the hardware at the end of the contract term. For this reason, the leasing of hardware is called financial leasing. When you enter into the contract, you don’t know what the hardware’s residual value will be at the end of the contract term. For the duration of the contract, you are also responsible for management and maintenance of the hardware.

DAAS is also called operational leasing. In this case, the supplier takes the devices back after the term of the contract. The Device as a Service contract also includes a number of services such as installation, repairs, maintenance, replacement and disposal of devices. This means that your IT department is saved from a lot of work on these activities. The contract also ensures that you will have the newest devices for your colleagues.

What do CAPEX and OPEX mean?

Capital Expenditures (CAPEX) represents all costs for development, design or delivery of non-consumable aspects of a product or system. Operating Expenditures (OPEX) represents all recurring costs for a product, system or company.

For example, the costs of purchasing a notebook are CAPEX costs. The costs of a DAAS solution for which you pay a fixed amount per month are classified as OPEX.

How does DAAS support remote working?

Both mobile and computing devices can be delivered to households. The devices are fully configured to ensure that the end user can immediately start working. Thanks to proactive monitoring, we can remotely monitor the devices to ensure that we can identify defects on time and provide a quick response. This means that end users are always productive, no matter where they are working from.

What is desk-to-desk support?

Desk-to-desk support provides support to your service desk. Your IT service desk can forward hardware-related service tickets directly to us, where we then resolve the ticket and address the issue on your behalf. This means that with desk-to-desk support, we do not require direct contact with your end users.

Why do you use personas?

By making use of personas, you can easily determine which specific IT resources each employee needs to perform their work as well and efficiently as possible. After all, each employee is unique. By specifying these personas or user groups and sorting your employees accordingly, you can offer a standardised package of hardware, software and services. Within our DAAS Compute product range, we use our personas to differentiate the needs per device. Click here to read more about personas >

How is the IT service desk supported through DAAS?

We support your IT service desk by providing desk-to-desk support. This means that we handle and resolve all hardware-related service tickets on your behalf. This saves a great deal of workload from your service employees. We therefore do not have direct contact with your end users, but rather fulfil a supporting role.

What is Mobile Device Management (MDM)?

MDM allows you to centralise the management of all mobile devices within your organisation. You can easily configure settings, permissions and security features remotely, on any device. This is very important as more employees use mobile devices for everyday tasks. Mobile Device Management gives you full control over the security of your business data. If a device gets stolen, you can simply execute a remote data wipe.

MDM makes it possible to manage all your devices with just one tool.

What is Zero Touch Deployment?

DAAS also includes a Zero Touch Deployment process. This means that devices are delivered fully configured and ready-to-use, without intervention required from your internal IT team. The devices are either delivered to the end user’s home, or to their on-site workspace. If a new employee joins the company, then you can easily order a new device which will be delivered to a location of your choice, fully configured and ready-to-use. The employee will need to need to log in using their known login details, and then they can start working immediately.

How does DAAS contribute to corporate social responsibility (CSR)?

We predominantly do this with our approach to packaging. When a customer opts for a DAAS solution, the devices are first shipped to us. We sort the waste in the packaging provided by our partners and then configure the devices. A good example of this is polystyrene, a material often used in the packaging provided by our partners.

We collect the polystyrene and pass it to recycling partners who are able to re-purpose it. It can be used to manufacture environmentally-friendly containers for the fishing industry and other uses. Additionally, our entire packaging line consists of paper and cardboard – from boxes to sticky tape. Lastly, our green and other project boxes can be reused up to ten times.

How does DAAS contribute to higher employee satisfaction?

Device as a Service offers your employees the newest and fastest devices. As your organisation uses recent product models and new devices, you have a reduced chance of downtime. Your employees receive the device that best matches their work. They can also do their work in a way that suits them, free of frustration.

Our DAAS Compute packages precisely match the needs and wishes of your colleagues where we offer persona-specific packages. Click here to read more about segmenting based on personas >  All devices are proactively monitored, making potential incidents more predictable. If there is an incident, your colleague can quickly receive support from our desk-to-desk service. If a defect occurs, our swap-service will deliver a new device within one working day.

DAAS Mobile uses the newest device models. When it comes to mobile devices, employees have a range of requirements and wishes. That is why it is necessary to build a standardised model that encompasses a number of bundles which are segmented on the basis of personal characteristics and job roles. This approach increases the freedom of choice for end users, meaning that they can choose from a number of devices within a bundle. By offering your employee the choice, you increase employee satisfaction and productivity. This makes the HR manager’s search for new talent much easier.
