From cloud to data to AI, Microsoft Ignite 2025 made one thing crystal clear: the hybrid datacentre is evolving at breakneck speed. AI is no longer just a feature—it’s woven deep into apps, workloads and infrastructure. And Microsoft unveiled a wave of updates designed to fast-track the journey to a truly intelligent cloud Our colleague Gino van Essen was on the ground in San Francisco, soaking up every announcement. In this blog, Gino summarises the key developments in cloud, data and AI for you. This gives you a clear picture of the innovations on the horizon and what they could mean for your IT landscape.

Azure Local is an infrastructure solution that brings the power of Azure straight into your own environment. It’s designed for organisations that want the flexibility of cloud capabilities combined with local hardware, control, data storage and security.

At Ignite, Microsoft announced several new features, including:

  • VMware to Azure Local migration tools – Replicate and migrate your data locally with ease.
  • No Active Directory required – Apply access and security keys via Azure Key Vault, eliminating the need for domain controllers.
  • Support for external SAN storage – Connect and use your existing solution seamlessly.
  • Support for NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPU – Unlock NVIDIA compute power for AI workloads and more.
  • Microsoft 365 on your own hardware – A validated architecture that lets you run Microsoft 365 apps like Exchange and SharePoint on your sovereign infrastructure.

Since April, Copilot has been available in the Azure Portal, making it easier than ever to pull up information, tweak configurations and optimise your hybrid or multi-cloud environment. The next step? Automating migration processes with AI-powered support.

This new capability can automatically generate code for your Azure environment. Copilot lays the groundwork and builds the foundation, so you can focus on applications and data. Of course, it’s still essential to review and refine the generated concept—but the payoff is huge: less manual work and a faster path to modernisation.

Windows 365 delivers a Cloud PC that gives users secure access to their personal Windows 11 environment from any device—whether they’re on a Windows PC, a Mac, or using iOS or Android. The next big step? Cloud PCs for agents, purpose-built to run AI agents and workloads like automation bots safely and at scale in the cloud.

Microsoft is also introducing integration with Copilot Studio for configuration and Agent 365 as a central management portal.

New Windows 365 capabilities include:

  • Windows 365 Reserve – Temporary Cloud PC access for employees who usually work on physical devices like laptops.
  • Support for external identities – Roll out Cloud PCs for external users with ease.

Azure Virtual Desktop is Microsoft’s cloud-based service for virtualising desktops and applications. It lets organisations deliver Windows 10, Windows 11 or Windows Server environments virtually through the Azure platform. Until now, this solution was only available via Azure in the public cloud or Azure Local—but that’s about to change.

What’s new? Hybrid Azure Virtual Desktop now supports on-premises environments through Azure Arc. This means you can run virtual desktops without replacing your existing infrastructure. For now, this applies exclusively to Windows 11 Enterprise and Windows Server.

Ignite 2025 confirms it: the hybrid data centre is entering a new era. Cloud, data and AI are no longer separate pillars—they’re converging into one integrated platform. Solutions like Azure Local, Windows 365, intelligent migration agents and new data layers such as Fabric IQ show just how quickly organisations can modernise—provided you know which steps make sense for your IT landscape.

That’s where Bechtle comes in. We help you identify which innovations are mature enough to implement now and which are worth waiting for. So every move you make is the right one—with solutions that deliver today and keep you ready for what’s next.
