TRAVYS SA - A new IT infrastructure for the public transport company in the Jura region of the canton of Vaud.

Starting point.

TRAVYS were looking for an IT infrastructure predominantly based on servers, SAN storage, a virtualisation platform and a new central backup solution.

Previously, daily backups were carried out by Windows and Linux servers.

 

Project objectives.

TRAVYS wanted a turnkey solution that was easy to manage. The company were looking for experienced experts to carry out the project who would also take on the responsibility for the design and implementation of a virtual architecture for the management of the TRAVYS IT network. This virtual architecture needed to replace the existing physical servers, making the goals of this project particularly technical, economic and environmental in nature and including the purchase of servers, a SAN storage system and system software as well as the installation, knowledge transfer and maintenance of the entire system.

 

Challenge.

Both production and the Veeam-supported backup infrastructure were based on HP servers. With regard to the network, we worked together with Cisco before deciding on VMware solutions for infrastructure virtualisation running on Microsoft operating systems. What’s more, we provided TRAVYS personal and dedicated support for the entirety of the project and continue to do so through our Managed Services. Our PMS team (Project & Managed Services) were therefore able to ensure that the backups and IT infrastructure implemented worked well, service availability was guaranteed, maintenance was kept up and running and security patch updates were carried out on the servers to avoid potential security breaches. We were also able to guarantee infrastructure support via our operations centre.

 

Our PMS team also handled the proactive maintenance and technical monitoring of the implemented system.

    We utilised Bechtle’s services to procure a hardware and software platform for server and storage virtualisation. We were impressed by the wide-range of skills demonstrated by the Bechtle team during the project, both in terms of project management and follow up, and in keeping to schedule and budget. We are especially grateful for the advice of the Bechtle specialists, who implemented our project, allowing us to consider the future development of the IT platform.
