Starting point.

IT is a crucial component of the working day in Wettingen. However, the arwo Foundation did not have its own internal IT organisation, so external IT partners were providing all necessary services. High performance and data availability as well as network and data security needed to be guaranteed in this way. All foundation employees needed to have IT access regardless of the location and time.

Project objectives.

The arwo Foundation wanted all IT services to be available from a single source for a period of at least five years and for the switch to be as seamless as possible.

The new service partner should link all locations with each other, ensure the operation of all applications and make available both future-proof hardware at affordable prices and an IT service desk. arwo were looking to secure all of these services and the related efficient operation from one service provider.

Process.

Bechtle’s offer for the New IT Sourcing project included 360° desktop and 360° Services and was exactly what arwo had been looking for. In a first step, the arwo Foundation signed a non-binding letter of intent (LoI).

This was followed by due diligence during which the requirements were checked so that the Bechtle offer could be fine-tuned before a SWOT analysis was carried out on the offered cloud solutions to prevent any complications from arising.

Three factors were important for us when it came to the cloud solution: high performance, scalability and affordability. Bechtle’s 360° desktop didn’t just fulfil all of these requirements, but we could also provide our employees with a good solution for their work PCs. Now all applications are centrally provisioned and updates making work a lot more efficient and saving us time and money.

Solution.

The cloud implemented by Bechtle at the arwo Foundation consisted of  360° desktop as a foundations and additional 360° services, such as 360° devicemanager and 360° monitoring. The cloud was to be completely operated and managed by Bechtle in their highly-available Swiss data centre and would enable all arwo employees to work from a centrally provisioned Citrix desktop. This means that their applications and operating systems are no longer installed on the on-premise computers, but are centrally provisioned by Bechtle on the respective workstations. Program management and updating is also carried out centrally so that applications such as Microsoft Office are always up-to-date.

All employees were given new hardware which they could use an encrypted connection to securely and directly connect to their personal 360° desktop. Bechtle also updated the network infrastructure to guarantee user-friendly speeds. LAN and WLAN are based on Hewlett Packard Aruba hardware, which consolidates and optimally uses the benefits of the cloud used by the arwo Foundation with the existing mobility solutions.

he Foundation employees can access the cloud-based environment at any time as if they were working on a computer installed on-premise. If there do happen to be issues with the hardware or software, the Bechtle Service desk is the arwo Foundation’s expert and professional single point of contact (SPoC) for everything IT during the agreed service hours.

Business benefits.

Bechtle implemented a highly-standardised and economically ideal cloud solution in the form of their 360° desktop which is located in Switzerland. Bechtle’s complete support of the solution introduces new standards at the arwo Foundation that facilitates everyone’s work. This saves costs and also creates a stable IT environment.

The infrastructure is easy to scale and can therefore be flexibly adjusted to any new requirements without any considerable costs.
