Challenge.

On the back of a corporate restructuring, GWI was looking to migrate its entire IT infrastructure from its existing Microsoft 365 tenant to one GWI itself had configured. This meant all data, Teams Channels and SharePoint pages had to be moved and new standards established such as e-mail naming conventions with the aim of completely shutting down its current tenant. The most challenging part of the process was the preparation as all user and domain mappings had to be redrawn and all relevant data identified to ensure the migration went as seamlessly as possible.

Solution.

In order to carefully copy all data to the new tenant, Bechtle first analysed the existing M365 tenant. For the migration itself, Bechtle used AvePoint Fly, which generated detailed reports on the precisely defined migration plan. Bechtle first listed all the elements to be migrated including user and domain mappings in a mapping table before configuring specific server accounts for GWI to establish a connection between the two tenants. The migration itself was carried out in several steps, the first of which was transferring all SharePoint pages, Teams Channels and user profiles—a total of 180 units. Any error messages were analysed and rectified by Bechtle immediately with the AvePoint dashboard providing an overview at all times to support targeted optimisations. The final step saw Bechtle and GWI testing the new systems so that all users were able to log into Teams and access their data as they always could.
