Challenge.

Natur-Solebad Werne aimed to take greater control of its IT security while introducing advanced protection features. The goal was to find a high-performance firewall that was easy to manage from anywhere. The security concept needed to meet modern standards and anticipate a range of scenarios—from encrypted remote access for employees to automated detection of suspicious traffic. The solution also had to integrate seamlessly with the spa’s IT infrastructure and the City of Werne’s server environment—delivered by a single partner who would handle every stage of the project.

Solution.

Bechtle developed a tailored security concept for Natur-Solebad Werne. In a joint kick-off meeting, the team aligned on all technical details, maintenance windows, and requirements. Bechtle analysed the existing firewall setup and used it as a reference for configuring the new Sophos XGS Firewall. A direct import of legacy settings wasn’t technically viable, so Bechtle rebuilt the entire rule set—based on the previous structure, but optimised to reflect current best practices. Key security features in Sophos Labs—including Advanced Threat Protection, Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), and SSL Inspection—were also configured to meet the spa’s specific needs. To enable secure remote access, Bechtle implemented a VPN with two-factor authentication. The link to the City of Werne’s server infrastructure was redesigned and now runs through an encrypted VPN tunnel, ensuring uninterrupted access to services such as printing. Bechtle documented every configuration in detail and put together a clear network diagram. By the final project meeting, it was clear to everyone involved: the result speaks for itself. The new Sophos firewall delivers maximum security, centralised management, and full visibility and control over all data traffic.
