Sysmex stands for excellence in laboratory diagnostics, developing and distributing innovative analytical instruments worldwide. Precision and efficiency are also essential in IT, especially when it comes to the backup solution. Bechtle was tasked with enabling Sysmex Europe SE to centrally secure data from a wide range of sources, while simplifying, accelerating, and future-proofing administration. The solution was continuing with Rubrik, now enhanced with Cloud Vault. This platform connects Sysmex Europe across the EMEA region, offering ease of use, high efficiency, and a clear focus on cloud and scalability.

Challenge.

Backups weren’t anything new for Sysmex Europe having Rubrik already in use. Despite that, it was time for the company to take the next step. When the existing solution reached the end of its lifecycle, the IT team took the opportunity to reassess the market from a fresh, platform-independent perspective. Which backup solution can be deployed globally, is scalable, cloud-compatible and compatible with the existing hardware appliance? What was needed was a centralised backup solution that was easy to operate from a central web GUI, covered multiple workloads, supported fast recovery and space to grow, supporting new regions, data sources, and evolving cloud strategies.

Data backup and recovery need to be fast, scalable and simple. By combining the appliance with CloudVault, we worked with Bechtle’s experts to create a flexible solution that not only meets current requirements, but is also adaptable to future needs.

Solution.

A Bechtle analysis showed that Rubrik remained the best solution out there, as Rubrik Cloud Vault enables secure cloud-based backups and Rubrik Edge appliances easily connect the smaller subsidiaries. At the Sysmex headquarters, Bechtle laid the foundation for the new platform that perfectly blended central and local needs with a new Rubrik appliance with a capacity of 120 TB. This allows Sysmex Europe to back up all its workloads from virtual machines and Microsoft SQL to Synology systems. What’s more, 2,500+ Microsoft 365 users are reliably protected with Rubrik Data SaaS and when it comes to long-term back ups, Rubrik Cloud Vault Archive’s 500 TB capacity is more than enough for every region. Management is centralised on an intuitive console, instant recovery is ready whenever it’s needed, and new SaaS applications can be seamlessly integrated. Leveraging a combination of on-premise and the cloud, Sysmex not only benefits from less complexity, but also lower backup costs. Bechtle supported the Sysmex Europe team with consulting, design, and technical expertise throughout the entire process.
