Alina’s motto is “work smarter, not harder“. She’s always looking for ways to make the most efficient use of her time and energy to get the best results, which is probably why the 21-year-old got so much out of her time as a vocational trainee. “I’ve learned a lot and found my own flow,” she says. And she doesn’t only mean in terms of professional expertise, but in gaining clarity into what her future holds. “This is what I had hoped for when I started out on this journey and it’s exactly what I got, which I’m so happy about,” says Alina.
“I’ve learned a lot and found my own flow in my time as a vocational trainee.”
Alina makes no secret of the fact that starting a career after graduating from university was no mean feat. She first had to get to grips with her new responsibilities and work structures, realising within her first week at the Neckarsulm headquarters: “What I do here is important. It’s a piece of a much larger puzzle,” she says.
Alina was always able to rely on the support of both her colleagues and managers during her traineeship. “It’s completely normal to feel like there are things you can’t do at the beginning,” she says. But it’s worth taking on these challenges. “I always say “yes” to new projects because I want to grow and gain even more confidence in myself,” says Alina. Her aim is never to stand still and use her newly acquired skills to benefit others.
“There’s so much more to IT than you might think.”
Alina had several opportunities to discover and try out new things during her traineeship. Alongside the three mandatory departments of Sales, Purchasing and Product Management, Alina was also given plenty of freedom to satisfy her curiosity, which is how she got to know Innovations Management and IT Security. “It’s hugely beneficial to take a look behind the scenes of multiple departments, even if the only thing you learn is: “That’s not the right fit for me,” she explains. She especially enjoyed being able to contribute her own ideas and play a role in making changes for the better.
Being trusted to work independently and develop herself professionally were also important factors for Alina remaining with Bechtle after her traineeship finished. “I wanted more,” she thought, and so made the decision to start a dual study programme, finding the perfect combination of business and technology with a ‘Business Administration Digital Commerce Management’ course.
Alina’s tip for those just starting out on their careers? “Do a vocational traineeship to find out what’s right for you. There’s so much more to IT than you might think.”
