Environment.

Our vision.
We embrace an environmental approach in everything we do and operate in harmony with our environment to conserve our climate and resources into the future.

In this action area, we look closely at how our activities affect the climate and the wider environment. This includes our own carbon footprint as well as that of the IT hardware products we sell. In logistics and remarketing, we place particular emphasis on conserving resources. In the area of logistics, we pay particular attention to conserving resources and using climate-friendly packaging. With its IT remarketing services, Bechtle Circular IT is an important partner in our customers' IT lifecycle management.

Our focal points within this action area are:

  • Climate and energy
  • Sustainable logistics
  • Circular economy
Social Development Goals.

The following UN SDGs apply to our action area for the environment:

Affordable and clean enery
Responsible Consumption and Production
Clima Action

Climate protection.

The Bechtle Climate Protection Strategy defines how we contribute to climate action. The strategy centres on short- and long-term emissions-reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Our targets are in line with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5 °C goal and are ambitious, grounded in science and reviewed regularly.

Our fleet of vehicles is among the largest contributors to our operational emissions, along with the energy required to run offices, warehouses, and data centres. In our upstream and downstream value chains, emissions are generated during production, transport, and the use of the products we sell. That’s why our climate strategy focuses on the areas with the greatest decarbonisation potential—mobility, energy, and sourcing.

Charge@Work: With more than 1,000 EV charging points across europe, employees can conveniently charge their electric vehicles at Bechtle locations using renewable energy.

The validation of our short‑term climate targets for 2030 and our net zero target for 2050 by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) underlines our credible, consistent and transparent commitment to climate protection. The SBTi’s rigorous approach reflects our responsibility as a leading European IT service provider.

Reduction targets by 2030.

Scope 1

Direct emissions generated by our operations, e.g. through the use of company vehicles and heating.

Scope 2

Indirect emissions from purchased energy, such as electricity and district heating.

We are committed to reducing absolute greenhouse gas emissions across Scope 1 and 2 by 54.4% by 2030. The baseline year is 2019.

Scope 3

All other indirect emissions across the value chain, divided into 15 sub‑categories.

We are also committed to a 55% reduction per €1,000 of value added in Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services (3.1) and the use of sold products (3.11), also by 2030. The baseline year is 2019.

Net zero by 2050.

We are committed to reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% by 2050.

We are also committed to a 97% reduction per €1,000 of value added in Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services (3.1) and the use of sold products (3.11), also by 2050.

The baseline year for all targets is 2019. Any remaining emissions will be neutralised through credible carbon removal measures.
Key levers for decarbonisation include energy, mobility, logistics and product sourcing.
Bechtle Box
Conserving resources through sustainable logistics.

At Bechtle, sustainable logistics is built on a holistic approach that brings together intralogistics, distribution, packaging, materials and emissions.

Our packaging strategy prioritises reducing, reusing and recycling—supported by recycled paper, FSC-certified cardboard from renewable sources and stretch film containing 20% recycled plastic. These measures help conserve resources and reduce our footprint. We also use the reusable Bechtle Box©, which cuts packaging waste and optimises transport volumes while ensuring goods are protected in transit. Efficient logistics processes further reduce transport volumes and emissions, while our logistics facility at Bechtle’s Neckarsulm headquarters is equipped with geothermal and photovoltaic systems.

Bechtle Circular IT.

With Bechtle Circular IT, we apply a comprehensive circular-economy approach to manage the entire IT hardware lifecycle for our customers:

  • Reuse as a fully functional device
  • Reuse of working parts and components
  • Professional recycling in compliance with environmental and legal standards
Logistics property „Mach2“ in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg
At the Mach2 logistics facility in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg, Bechtle has leased around 16 000 m² of warehouse space, where data on used IT hardware is securely wiped, devices are tested, refurbished, resold or professionally recycled, and non-reusable components disposed of responsibly.
