“I spent too long clinging on to my old life,” says Estelle of her time before Bechtle. “But I’ve finally find my home.” It’s two years since she chose to make a fresh start in IT. At this time, she had four years of experience working in various companies, had had two children, completed a Master’s degree in German Studies, Literature and Media as well as vocational training as a bookseller and, last but not least, worked as a freelance illustrator on the side. In other words, she’d had many irons in the fire, but never really found her calling.
“It sounded too good to be true.”
The 33-year-old was born into an IT family and the seeds of the idea to work in the industry were sown during her time at school. Logical thinking and the ability to find practical solutions quickly have always been her strengths. With a predilection for unconventional approaches, one day she thought to herself: “It’s time to go back to square one.”
Researching making the switch to a career in IT, Estelle came across the Bechtle Future in IT (FIT) programme that would see her requalify in just five months. It sounded too good to be true. At first, I was sceptical and thought it was a joke,” she says laughing. The interview at Bechtle Krefeld convinced her otherwise, and she knew from that moment on that Bechtle was the place she wanted to be.
She’s just as enthusiastic today, even though her job as IT Project Manager is anything but easy. She’s currently juggling 14 projects meaning having to hold everything together and communicate with and organise everyone. Structured and creative thinking are essential, independent working the standard and perseverance an advantage. With so many projects on the go, she’s always meeting new people, giving her the excitement and variety she was sorely missing in her previous jobs.
“I’ve never experienced such a family-feeling in any other company.”
“I’m constantly confronted by situations that help me grow professionally,” says Estelle. She finds them easy to handle thanks to the support she receives. “First of all, I have my colleagues, who are always willing to listen, and then there are the training courses I can choose from offered by the Bechtle Academy or external providers,” she says.
She’s also never experienced such a family-feeling in any other company. “Our relationship is based firmly on trust. I can work from home at short notice if it’s better for me and my children,” says Estelle, but she likes being in the office, where she can network and the seven project managers and their team leader regularly get together for dinner.
Estelle has finally let go of her old life and embraced the new. Her advice for all those still looking for their job? “Stop dithering. Find some courage. Do something. Anything is better than constantly asking ‘what if?’”
