The city of Graz’s Environment Agency collaborated with the city’s technical university as far back as 1991 on the development of the Ecological Project for Integrated Environmental Protection (ECOPROFIT). “Our objective was to reduce fine particulate emissions in Graz and we were looking for a way to help the city’s companies to do so,” explains Roland Kloss, Head of Sustainable Development, City of Graz. Over time, this project grew into a holistic environmental management system, which has met strict EU requirements since July 2023 and the EU Commission has partially recognised aspects of ECOPROFIT for its compliance with the EMAS European environmental management system. Furthermore, the companies that have signed up to ECOPROFIT are also well prepared when it comes to complying with the new legal requirements of the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
Cloud database facilitates documentation and calculations.
Businesses can record their consumption, emissions, environmental and climate protection strategies in a comprehensive database and when it comes to documenting and calculating progress, they can use a smartpoint cloud solution. Not only does the database allow businesses to calculate their carbon footprint, they can also gain an insight into Scope 3 emissions generated up and downstream in their supply chains. “The platform is based on certified and secure Microsoft Azure technologies and supports customers throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland to reliably and efficiently manage their ECOPROFIT projects and partners.
