Not all applications are running for the cloud. For a variety of reasons—legal requirements, corporate culture, proprietary applications and latencies to name but a few. The result? Hybrid data centre infrastructures. Made up of a combination of central cloud, mid-size to large regional and small on-premise data centres. Whereas in the past it wasn’t unusual to have a 1 megawatt data centre on-site, today all that are needed are some racks for IT systems with critical applications and for providing a network connection to the cloud. Even though the footprint and capacities of these new on-premise data centres are much smaller, they should not be underestimated as the on-site IT systems tend to be more important than ever.
