The constant changes driven by growth are a challenge that the Lila Logistik Gruppe are increasingly tackling with digitalisation. The group’s IT department has therefore taken the innovative step to outsource the entire network infrastructure as a Managed Service. The aim? Modern IT that can be quickly scaled and adapted to new locations without the in-house IT having to lift a finger. Network as a Service (NaaS) has the advantage that costs are transparent and can be precisely specified for tenders for each new location. To help the company take this step, MÜLLER | DIE LILA LOGISTIK needed a parter that not only understood the technology, but also took care of the entire service.

Solution.

After a request for tenders and a comparison of vendors, the Lila Logistik Gruppe chose HPE Aruba with Bechtle as its strategic partner with its extensive expertise in the field. HPE Aruba Network as a Service (NaaS) offers flexibility similar to that of the cloud for MÜLLER | DIE LILA LOGISTIK’s IT resources, facilitating network management. Resources are deployed significantly faster, which for the logistics service provider means that Bechtle takes on basic management of the network, all its LAN and WLAN components, 200 access points and some 150 switches as well as the warehousing of other switches that are needed and the deployment of replacement devices. In the past LILA LOGISTIK had to configure and install the WLAN infrastructure at each new location itself, but this is now handled by Bechtle with HPE Aruba NaaS. All it takes is an e-mail listing the requirements and location for Bechtle to prepare access points and switches for installation, install the latest software, label and configure everything before being shipped out. All the Lila Logistik Gruppe has to do is install everything on-site. As soon as the network components are online, Bechtle takes care of the rest. Once a contract has been awarded, the new location’s IT infrastructure is up and running in a matter of weeks.

Bechtle is also responsible for the centralised management of the entire infrastructure as well as the cost breakdown as the group pays per access point and switch. LILA LOGISTIK directly allocates the technology in place in the new logistics centres to individual projects. These operating costs (OPEX) can also be included in new tenders and forwarded to future customers making the Lila Logistik Gruppe extremely flexible and reliable which is a considerable advantage when it comes to tenders. On the other hand, investment costs (CAPEX) are a thing of the past.

Business benefits.

With HPE Aruba Network as a Service provided by Bechtle, MÜLLER | DIE LILA LOGISTIK is financially flexible and can calculate its projects in much shorter planning cycles. The agile infrastructure adapts perfectly to changes to business dynamics as it enables new warehouses to be quickly fitted out with LAN and WLAN and linked up with the company infrastructure. Costs remain completely transparent for the Lila Logistik Gruppe and its customers. The all-inclusive package that sees system operations handled by Bechtle is a load off the shoulders of the in-house IT department and significantly reduces administrative tasks.
