Being able to securely back up large volumes of data when working on computers is a prerequisite for most work processes in today’s digital era. The traditional method of using CDs or floppy discs for storage is a thing of the past and the use of an external hard drive can also be quite cumbersome. Modern businesses need to be fast and flexible and therefore require more up-to-date solutions. Various storage media are available, each with their own benefits and drawbacks. Because of its robust design, flash storage is less prone to damage than scratch and shock-sensitive hard drives, which rely on sensitive plug connections. Flash storage also uses less energy and generates less heat and noise. In addition, it doesn’t take up much space. On the other hand, issues sometimes arise with read, write and delete access, and flash storage is more expensive than optical media and hard drives.

Our online shop offers a variety of storage media, including RDX media, optical media such as DVDs and Blu-ray discs, and flash storage. Flash storage is divided into USB sticks and flash cards featuring different formats and capacities, such as Compact Flash (CF), CFast, XQD, SD/SDHC/SDXC and microSD/SDHC/SDXC. LTO cartridges, cleaning tapes and barcode labels are also available. Machine-readable barcodes allow tape libraries to switch out tapes automatically—no manual intervention necessary. Various criteria must be considered when selecting storage media. One factor is the volume and format of stored data, while another is the intended purpose of the media itself. As you can see, saving data on something other than your computer’s hard drive is a simple process, but when you have to choose between the various storage media, you can very quickly find yourself a little overwhelmed.
